Biography

Damian Hall joined the Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation in 1998 as a research scientist in the Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Division after completing a PhD with the Australian Antarctic Division in University of Tasmania on comic ray astronomy and then a short academic career on satellite observations of Antarctica.
From 2002 to 2018 he led research into distributed electronic warfare, specifically the development of distributed EW systems with autonomous platforms and electronic warfare battle management concepts. He led in a number of collaborative EW programs with North American defence organisations and his team managed the successful development of EW planning and decision aid tools for the EA-18G Growler program and other Army, and Joint EW acquisition projects.
From 2018 to 2021 he was DSTG’s Counsellor-Defence S&T in the Australian Embassy in Washington DC, responsible for strengthening Australia’s Defence S&T cooperation within the Defence, industry, and innovation sectors across North America.
Damian was the S&T Program Lead for Army ISREW after returning to Australia in 2021 and has been the Program Leader for Space since July 2022.
